Mountain View Fire Rescue

Making a Difference in the Lives of Others

Mountain View Fire Rescue (MVFR) has been in service for over 50 years since its formation in 1961.  The District serves 184 square miles including Dacono, Del Camino, Mead, Niwot, Erie, and unincorporated areas of Boulder and Weld counties.  This includes nearly 50,000 permanent residents and 60,000 commuters.

MISSION: To lead our communities in risk-reduction efforts, while maintaining an effective and efficient safety net of emergency services.

  • In 2013 MVFR earned International Accreditation by the Commission on Fire Accreditation.  The accreditation process reflects a comprehensive self-assessment and evaluation model that enables fire and emergency service organizations to examine their service levels and performance in a way that allows them to compare to industry best practices.  Internationally, there are only 141 departments that are recognized with this award.  MVFR is the first in Northern Colorado to complete this achievement.
  • MVFR has no bonds and continues to operate on a cash basis.  MVFR has placed a strong emphasis on fiscal responsibility and superior financial management.
  • MVFR currently has 6 staffed stations including its new station along Highway 119 which has been part of the District’s long-term planning.  In 2013 MVFR also moved its administration office from County Line Road to Stagecoach Road on Highway 119.
  • MVFR fire trucks are staffed with a minimum of 3 firefighters per engine and at least 2 per ambulance.  Included on each ambulance is at least 1 paramedic.
  • MVFR hosts Community Service Programs including the Fired Up for Food Drive, a Holiday Toy Drive, Christmas for our Troops, and the Annual Mead Pancake Breakfast.
  • The Community Outreach Division has 13 educational programs that are offered to the community.  They include donation of AEDs to schools, CPR & First Aid Classes, the Barnyard Safety Buddies, Car Seat Program, and much more.  MVFR also attends many community events throughout the year.
  • MVFR is involved in multiple community organizations including an Mead Rotary Club, Mead Community Day Committee, member of the Mead Chamber of Commerce, ambassador to the Erie Chamber of Commerce, Carbon Valley Rotary, ambassador to the Carbon Valley Chamber of Commerce, the Niwot Community Association, the Niwot Business Association, and many more.  It is also involved in Fire & Life Safety Educators of Colorado, Safe Kids, and the Colorado Drowning Prevention Task Force.
  • There are three specialized divisions within MVFR: Wildland, Technical Rescue, and Hazardous Materials.
  • The District maintains a diverse fleet of more than 50 pieces of apparatus comprised of fire engines, a 75 foot ladder truck, ambulances, water tenders, brush trucks, hazardous material response units, command vehicle, support vehicles, and staff vehicles.
