Proclamation: National Vietnam War Veterans Day

PROCLAMATION

National Vietnam War Veterans Day March 29, 2024

WHEREAS, March 29th was designated as the annual observance of Vietnam War Veterans Day and provides the opportunity to recognize, honor and thank our Vietnam Veterans and their families for their service and sacrifices during the Vietnam War from November 1, 1955, thru May 15, 1975; and

WHEREAS, our nation owes an immeasurable debt of gratitude to the more than 3 million veterans who served in Vietnam; the more than 58,000 who made the ultimate sacrifice, and to all who returned home more than 40 years ago to a nation in turmoil, and were denied a proper welcome; and

WHEREAS, while we cannot undo the past, we can right a wrong moving forward and ensure that our heroes know how much we value their service and sacrifice, and their courage and commitment to our nation.

NOW THEREFORE, I, Colleen G. Whitlow, Mayor, do hereby designate March 29, 2024, as Vietnam War Veterans Day in Mead.
