Proclamation: School Zone Safety Week 2023

PROCLAMATION

School Zone Safety Week August 13 - August 19, 2023

WHEREAS, the Town of Mead is a community that embraces and values safety; and

WHEREAS, the end of summer is approaching and our children, grandchildren, friends and neighbors are going back to school, making it more important than ever to practice safe driving in school zones; and

WHEREAS, according to a recent study by Safe Kids Worldwide, approximately 100 children in the United States are killed every year while walking to or from school, and 25,000 others sustain injuries because of school zone crashes; and

WHEREAS, driving through a school zone can be dangerous for both pedestrians and drivers if safety isn't a priority. Avoid cell phones and distractions. Adjust your route to avoid school zones if possible; and

WHEREAS, if you must drive through a school zone, give yourself extra time, slow down when school zone flashers are blinking, and stop and yield to pedestrians crossing the crosswalk or intersection;

WHEREAS, the Town of Mead seeks to cultivate the importance of safe driving, encouraging drivers to always operate their vehicles with the utmost care and concern.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY the Board of Trustees that August 13 through 19, 2023 is recognized as School Zone Safety Week in the Town of Mead.
