250th Anniversary of American Independence
and 150th Anniversary of Colorado Statehood
WHEREAS, the year 2026 marks the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the nation’s founding; and
WHEREAS, August 1, 2026, marks the 150th anniversary of Colorado’s admission to the Union as the 38th state, earning its title as the "Centennial State"; and
WHEREAS, this unique intersection of anniversaries—the "250-150"—offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to reflect on our shared history, honor the heritage of Colorado's Indigenous peoples, and celebrate the diverse communities that shape our future; and
WHEREAS, the America 250 - Colorado 150 Commission was established to foster community efforts, educational opportunities, and commemorative events that recognize the full spectrum of our shared past; and
WHEREAS, Colorado is committed to celebrating the spirit of the West, the resilience of its people, and the preservation of its natural beauty, striving for a "more perfect union" that is inclusive and forward-looking;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Colleen Whitlow, Mayor of the Town of Mead, Colorado, do hereby proclaim the year 2026 as AMERICA 250 - COLORADO 150 YEAR In the Town of Mead, Colorado and encourage all residents to celebrate this historic milestone through local events, education, and community reflection.
