Board of Trustees hear results of Pavement Condition Assessment

At the June 29 Board of Trustees Meeting, Public Works Director and Town Engineer, Erika Rasmussen presented the results of the 2020 Pavement Condition Assessment. She explained that with the current budget allocation for street repair, our road conditions will decline over the next five years. The assessment provided an overview of current road conditions and necessary work to maintain and repair roads. Roads were rated on a Pavement Condition Index (PCI), with a range of 100-0; 100 being the best. Mead's current PCI rate is 67 which is considered in the "Fair" range.

Substantial funding is needed to maintain the current road integrity and a significant increase would be required to improve our roads. Rasmussen explained that as roads deteriorate, they cost more to repair. For every $1 spent on maintaining a good road, the town would have to spend between $5-$20 dollars fixing fair or poor roads. Bottom line--investing in our roads now will save money in the future.
