Lorin Mead Park at Highland Lake Information

LMPHL

Highland Lake is owned by and operated by Highland Lake Reservoir Company.  Lower water levels is often caused by the water is being used for oil and gas fracking operations in unincorporated Weld County.

Background: The Town of Mead purchased the recreation rights to the Highland Lake property in 2016 to offer a new experience in recreation to the residents of Mead, Colorado. The park is open from dawn to dusk daily and the following regulations apply to the area:

  • Non-motorized boats and boats equipped with trolling motors are allowed.
  • Colorado Parks & Wildlife fishing regulations apply to this area.
  • Dogs must be on a leash.

There is also no swimming in Highland Lake. You may not use the water for any sort of recreation that involves possible contact with the water. This includes paddle boarding, windsurfing or any of other similar water sport. The Town does not have the personnel to monitor the water quality, therefore, we cannot assure for its cleanliness.

Lorin Mead Park at Highland Lake is one of nine recreation sites serving the residents of Mead.

September 8, 2021--Renovations are underway at the Lorin Mead Park at Highland Lake. This highly anticipated improvement project, made possible through a grant and impact fees, includes the addition of a parking lot, sidewalks, fencing, bathrooms, and fishing pier. The area will be closed to the public until completion.

Park improvements represent Phase 1 of the Lorin Mead Park at Highland Lake Master Plan, which was approved by the Board of Trustees in 2019. The Master Plan was divided into three phases, with Phase I representing high priority improvements, such as the fishing pier and paved parking areas. The Fishing is Fun grant, totaling $89,625, was an opportunity the Town of Mead couldn’t pass up.

April 25, 2022--Construction on the fishing pier portion of the renovation is in full swing. The steel support structure for the pier is in place and placement of the decking is expected to begin soon. We anticipate a full reopening of Lorin Mead Park at Highland Lake by July 2022.

June 29, 2022--Renovations at Lorin Mead Park at Highland Lake are now complete. Renovations include the addition of a parking lot, sidewalks, fencing, bathrooms, and fishing pier.
