February 20, 2026 – The Mead Police Department recognizes the successful conclusion of the July 13, 2025, shooting investigation, which resulted in the sentencing of 22-year-old Jesiah Anthony Vasquez.
On Thursday, Vasquez pleaded guilty to attempted second-degree murder, a Class 3 felony. He was sentenced to 20 years in the Colorado Department of Corrections, followed by three years of parole. By statute, this is a 75 percent offense, which requires him to serve 75 percent of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole.
On July 13, 2025, at approximately 6:39 p.m., Mead Police officers responded to reports of a shooting near Highway 66 and Highland Drive. According to the victims, two unknown males in a gray Buick Lacrosse attempted to force their vehicle off the road and fired one shot in their direction. Other witnesses corroborated the sequence of events, and officers recovered a pistol casing in the area.
The Mead Police Department thanks the officers and partnering agencies whose collaboration supported the investigation and prosecution of this case. The identification of suspects and witnesses was significantly aided by information obtained through Flock license plate reader cameras deployed in the area.
