Lorin Mead Park at Highland Lake

Highland Lake

Highland Lake is owned by and operated by Highland Lake Reservoir Company. Lower water levels is often caused by the water being used for oil and gas fracking operations in unincorporated Weld County.

Background: The Town of Mead purchased the recreation rights to the Highland Lake property in 2016 to offer a new experience in recreation to the residents of Mead, Colorado. The park is open from dawn to dusk daily and the following regulations apply to the area:

Non-motorized boats and boats equipped with trolling motors are allowed.

Colorado Parks & Wildlife fishing regulations apply to this area.

Dogs must be on a leash.

There is also no swimming in Highland Lake. You may not use the water for any sort of recreation that involves possible contact with the water. This includes paddle boarding, windsurfing or any of other similar water sport. The Town does not have the personnel to monitor the water quality, therefore, we cannot assure for its cleanliness.

September 8, 2021--Renovations are underway at the Lorin Mead Park at Highland Lake. This highly anticipated improvement project, made possible through a grant and impact fees, includes the addition of a parking lot, sidewalks, fencing, bathrooms, and fishing pier. The area will be closed to the public until completion.

February 14, 2022--Construction on the fishing pier portion of the renovation has began.

June 21, 2022--Lorin Mead Park at Highland Lake is open to the public, including parking lot and restrooms. The fishing pier is still under construction and we anticipate the pier being completed and open in July.
