Mead Police respond to shots fired on I-25

August 23, 2023--On August 22, at 10:01 p.m., Weld and Larimer County Communication Centers received a report of shots being fired from one driver towards another on I-25 near mile marker 244. Officers from the Mead Police Department, Larimer County Sheriff’s Office, and Weld County Sheriff’s Office responded.

Deputies from the Larimer County Sheriff's Office eventually stopped the suspect vehicle near Weld County Road 46 and Weld County Road 13. They subsequently arrested the driver, identified as Wyatt George Reed, who was in possession of a 9mm carbine. Reed, age 24, was arrested for:  

  • Attempted Murder in the 1st Degree (C.R.S. 18-3-102) 
  • Menacing – Aggravated with a Weapon (C.R.S. 18-3-206) 
  • Prohibited Use of Large Capacity Magazine During a Crime (C.R.S. 18-12-302) 
  • Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol (C.R.S. 42-4-1301) 
  • Prohibited Use of a Weapon (C.R.S. 18-12-106)
  • Drank from or possessed, Open Alcoholic Beverage Container (C.R.S. 42-4-1305) 

The Mead Police Department is asking for witnesses to this incident on I-25 to come forward. The suspect was driving a black 2016 GMC Dually Truck.
