March 8, 2024—On September 22, 2022, The Home Depot Distribution Center, located at 4194 Weld County Road 36 in Mead, was burglarized. Copper electrical wire and tools valued at over $8,000 were stolen from the warehouse, which was still being constructed. Throughout the following sixteen months, the Mead Police Department utilized a combination of traditional police methods and new electronic investigative techniques to draft search warrants that led to the identification of a suspect.

On January 17, 2024, Weld County issued an arrest warrant for Justin William Stewart, of Thornton, Colorado, for felony charges of Second-Degree Burglary of a Building, Theft, and Criminal Mischief. Stewart was subsequently arrested by the Glendale Police Department on January 24, 2024. This case is ongoing and no further information is available.

The Mead Police Department would like to extend its thanks to The Home Depot Distribution Center staff for their cooperation and assistance throughout the investigation.
